To Happy 1st Day of Spring RDTAC!

Just a few updates:

1.  The Scholarship Committee is now accepting applications for the 2022 RDTAC Scholarship.  All applicants must be a current student.  For more information,  please visit the RDTAC website at https://www.raleighdurhamtuskegeealumni.com/scholarship.html. Applications are due by June 1, 2022.

2.  TU Alumni, please continue to vote for Tuskegee University in the “Retool Your School” competition.  As of today, TU is in 3rd place with 181,282 votes, behind Coahoma Community College and Alcorn State University.  We have exactly 1 week as voting ends March 27th.  See below. To vote, visit www.retoolyourschool.com.

Wonderful Wednesday RDTAC:

Happy National Women’s History Month!  The U.S. Congress, in 1987, designated the month of March as “National Women’s History Month” in recognition of women’s many accomplishments.  The RDTAC honors the 3 wives of Booker T. Washington: 

1. Fannie N. Smith

• Married in 1882, had 1 child – Portia M. Washington.  Fannie died in 1884

2. Olivia A. Davidson

• Married in 1886, had 2 sons – Booker T. Washington Jr. and Ernest Davidson Washington.  Olivia died in 1889.

3. Margaret James Murray

• Married in 1893, no children but she helped rear all 3 children.  In 1972, Margaret was inducted into the Alabama Women’s Hall of Fame for her compassion, intelligence and independence of judgement, which led her to be among the greatest women and African American leaders of her century.  Margaret outlived Booker T. and died in 1915.

Booker T. Washington gave all 3 wives credit for their contributions at Tuskegee.  2 buildings at Tuskegee University are named for his last 2 wives.

TU Alumni, dues are now due.  Dues can be mailed to Melvin McCain at 111 Lewey Brook Drive, Cary, NC  27519.  Dues are $70, single and $130, couples.  Again, any TU Alumni, not previously a member, that pays dues in March will receive a free 2022 RDTAC Calendar.
