Happy June RDTAC, Juneteenth is a US federal holiday celebrated annually on June 19th to commemorate the ending of slavery. The name, first used in the 1890's, is a portmanteau of the words "June" and "nineteenth", referring to June 19, 1865. June 19th is the day Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas. Juneteenth became the first new federal holiday since Martin Luther King Jr. Day was adopted in 1983. RDTAC, although June is our "vacation" month, we are still quite busy!
